Minister of Tourism Prepares Transition to Business Standardization and Certification

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is currently preparing for the transition towards a better standardization and certification of tourism and creative economy businesses in the future.

During the Coordination Meeting on Standardization and Certification of Businesses in the Western Region at Novotel, Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday (29/2/2024), Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno took into account that the current government's term will soon end on October 20, 2024. Therefore, he does not want the good practices learned and implemented during COVID-19, such as the CHSE Certification, to be discontinued.

It is evident that Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno is focused on ensuring that the efforts towards standardization and certification in the tourism and creative economy sectors continue to progress positively. By emphasizing the importance of maintaining these practices, he aims to contribute to the sustainable growth and development of the industry even after the current government's term concludes.

We hope that the change in government does not mean a change in policy. I believe that standardization should be a priority because there are many accidents in recreational park tourism destinations, some are not clean, and some do not yet comply with health and environmental sustainability standards," he said.

SNI Number 9042 or CHSE Certification is the process of granting certificates to Tourism Businesses, Tourism Destinations, and other Tourism Products to provide assurance to tourists about the implementation of Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We want the standardization that is only at 1 percent throughout the entire tourism ecosystem and is mostly focused in Jakarta and its surrounding areas to spread to all regions of the archipelago because we already have globally scaled destinations," he said.

The implementation of Risk-Based Business Licensing aims to enhance a more effective and simplified ecosystem for investment and business activities. In order to ensure the consistency of business standards, regular supervision by the Government and Local Government is mandatory, in accordance with their respective authorities, which should be carried out in an integrated, transparent, and accountable manner.

"There are many things that need to be certified, ranging from destinations, amenities including hotels, to restaurants, homestays, and even tourist villages. If we can reach 20 percent in the next 10 years, it would be extraordinary. The challenges lie in socialization, education, implementation, and consistency. So that we can achieve the 20 percent target," he said.

The implementation of Business Standardization and Certification is aimed at mitigating potential issues that may arise during business operations. In recent cases of accidents in the tourism industry, one of the causes is the failure to adhere to proper business standards.

The Tourism Business Standard Certificate issued by the Certification Agency (LSPr) for Tourism Business serves as written evidence of the implementation of business standards by business actors, which is mandatory for business actors with a high and very high level of risk.

According to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, this standardization not only provides protection for tourists but also for workers and business actors in the tourism sector itself. Therefore, it serves as protection for everyone involved.

During the event, Minister Sandiaga was accompanied by Deputy for Industry and Investment of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Rizki Handayani Mustafa, as well as the Director of Business Standardization and Certification of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Hanifah Makarim.
