Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno held a meeting with the Secretary General of ASEAN-Japan Center (AJC)

 Jakarta, March 5, 2024 - The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, during his working visit to Japan, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC), Dr. Kunihiko Chris Hirabayashi, to explore cooperation in the development of tourism, particularly sustainable tourism.

During his visit to the ASEAN-Japan Centre office in Tokyo on Monday (March 4, 2024), Minister Sandiaga conveyed that Indonesia is currently intensifying the development of the tourism and creative economy sectors, with a focus on green and sustainable tourism.

"Therefore, Indonesia hopes to collaborate with AJC to share best practices related to sustainable tourism and rural tourism," said Minister Sandiaga.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy explained that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is also developing tourism villages as one of its main programs. One of the activities that will be carried out this year is the ASEAN Tourism Village to promote and enhance the empowerment of tourism villages.

"Indonesia hopes that AJC can provide support for the implementation of the ASEAN Tourism Village," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga.

Minister Sandiaga also offers opportunities for capacity building cooperation to support the acceleration of the national gaming industry.

"Indonesia has just inaugurated Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 19 of 2024 on the Acceleration of National Gaming Industry Development. Therefore, we offer opportunities for capacity building cooperation to support the acceleration of the national gaming industry," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy.

Secretary General of ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC), Dr. Kunihiko Chris Hirabayashi, conveyed that the younger generation is currently interested in health and wellness issues, so the combination of health and wellness tourism will be increasingly popular in the future.

Kunihiko mentioned that Indonesia and AJC can collaborate to conduct research in order to determine the appropriate market segmentation for health and wellness tourism that supports sustainable tourism.

Kunihiko also expressed AJC's interest in supporting the organization of the ASEAN Creative Economy Business Forum (ACEBF) 2024.

"And we hope to receive details of the activities to identify speakers or experts that are suitable for the theme of ACEBF 2024," Kunihiko said.
