Jakarta, 8 March 2024 - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno had the opportunity to give awards to British alumni from Indonesia (Study UK Alumni Awards Indonesia 2024) who have utilized their talents and expertise to enrich the cultural landscape and contribute to advancing the country's creative industry.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno gave an award to Denny Rasyid Priyatna at the Study UK Alumni Awards Indonesia 2024 at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (7/3/2024).
The Study UK Alumni Awards are facilitated by the British Council as an effort to appreciate prominent alumni who have graduated from UK higher education institutions.
"It is an honor to stand in front of British alumni from Indonesia tonight to celebrate extraordinary achievements, especially achievements in the fields of culture and creativity," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga, at the Study UK Alumni Awards Indonesia 2024, which took place at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (7/3/2024) evening.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga said that the creative economy has emerged as a beacon of post-pandemic resilience and innovation. With an estimated growth rate of 7.25 percent in 2023 alone, it shows that the creative economy sector has not only weathered the storm but is also growing rapidly, making a significant contribution to Indonesia's GDP.
"Let's reaffirm our commitment to maintaining and supporting culture and creative industries. Because this industry is not only a driver of economic growth but also a vehicle for freedom of expression and work," said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga.
The award in the culture and creativity category was given by Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga to Denny Rasyid Priyatna. Denny is a creative economy product designer who is famous for his unique way of combining local influences with modern technology.
Obtaining a Master of Art in Design at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, Denny was inspired to increase the value of Indonesian crafts by combining materials such as wood waste, rattan and bamboo with traditional production techniques in the form of weaving and carving.
In addition, he has developed services and platforms that sell the work of local craftsmen and MSMEs and help them improve their creative and production processes, in an effort to explore the relationship between creativity, culture and community.
Apart from Denny, the award was also given to Fadilah Arief as a finalist in the culture and creativity category.
"For this reason, I congratulate the award winners for their dedication, enthusiasm and creativity which not only changed lives but also brought Indonesia to the global stage," said Sandiaga.
On that occasion, Denny expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy for the programs he attended which provided space for Denny to develop.
"Of course, the program presented by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is not only beneficial for me, but also industry players in the creative economy sector to promote local Indonesian products, of course," said Denny.
