Kampung Budaya Sindang Barang, located in Pasir Eurih Village, Taman Sari District, Bogor Regency, is a traditional Sundanese village. According to history, Kampung Sindang Barang has existed since the 12th century and is mentioned in the Babad Pajajaran as well as in Bogor's pantun. The rich Sundanese culture is still evident in the daily lives of its people, especially during the regular Serentaun event held in Kampung Sindang Barang. As explained by Prasetyo (2011), Kampung Budaya Sindang Barang is one of the 20 traditional villages in West Java.
Kampung Budaya Sindang Barang is a community that continues to preserve the local cultural aspects of the Pajajaran kingdom. There are 78 historical sites in Pakuan Sindangbarang, traditional ceremonies (such as Serentaun, Neteupken, Pabeasan, and others), as well as various traditional Sundanese arts. One of the distinctive Sundanese traditions in Kampung Budaya Sindang Barang is the Serentaun ritual, which is a form of gratitude for the harvest. This ritual dates back to the 16th century during the Pajajaran Kingdom and is still practiced today.
The Serentaun ceremony is held annually and led by a traditional leader. However, in 1971, after the passing of the last traditional leader, Etong Sumawijaya, and the lack of regeneration, the Serentaun event was not carried out on a grand scale. Instead, it was organized individually by the community members who still believed in it. In 2006, the Serentaun ceremony was centralized again after the recognition of a new traditional leader due to the initiative of several traditional groups aiming to preserve Sundanese culture in Sindang Barang under the Padepokan Giri Sunda Pura Sindang Barang. The revival of the Serentaun ceremony received positive responses at that time.
In Sindang Barang Cultural Village, various Sundanese arts have been revitalized and preserved by its residents since ancient times. There are also ancient sites from the Pajajaran kingdom in the form of terraced hills. In Sindang Barang, once a year, the traditional ceremony called Seren Taun is held to express the community's gratitude to the Almighty God for the harvest and agricultural produce obtained in the current year, while hoping for an even better harvest in the following year.
To preserve traditional arts, Sindang Barang Cultural Village organizes free dance and gamelan training for the younger generation. Young individuals who have mastered their respective artistic fields will be included in performances to welcome guests, which will undoubtedly increase their own income.
In Sindang Barang Cultural Village, there are several buildings used as accommodations. There are approximately 6 houses that serve as lodgings and are available for rent, along with 4 other houses used as offices and 1 prayer room. In addition to residential buildings, there is also another unique structure called 'leuit' (in Sundanese language), which is translated as a rice barn in Indonesian.
