Guide to Climbing Mount Arjuno, Pasuruan

Mount Arjuno, also known as Ogal Agil, stands proudly at an elevation of 3,399 meters above sea level in East Java, Indonesia. This cone-shaped volcano is situated within the administrative boundaries of Batu and Malang cities, as well as the Pasuruan Regency. It is under the management of the Raden Soerjo Grand Forest Park, adding to its significance in the region.

The majestic Mount Arjuno boasts a relative height of 2,812 meters, making it the second highest peak in East Java, only surpassed by Mount Semeru. On the island of Java, it ranks as the fourth highest mountain, attracting adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. Its strategic location at the border of Batu City, Malang Regency, and Pasuruan Regency adds to its allure.

Despite its impressive stature and historical significance, Mount Arjuno last erupted in August 1952. This natural wonder continues to be a prominent feature of the East Java landscape, offering breathtaking views and a challenging terrain for those who seek to conquer its heights. As part of the Raden Soerjo Grand Forest Park, Mount Arjuno remains a symbol of the region's natural beauty and geological diversity.

Why is Mount Arjuno interesting for climbing?

1. Gunung Arjuno is a popular hiking destination that offers several interesting tourist attractions. One of them is the Kakek Bodo waterfall, which is also one of the routes to the summit of Gunung Arjuno. In addition to the Kakek Bodo waterfall, there are also other waterfalls to explore.

2. Despite being classified as a volcano, Gunung Arjuno does not have a crater. It has four hiking routes that you can choose from, namely Lawang, Tretes, Batu, or Purwosari. Each route has its own level of difficulty and unique features.

3. Gunung Arjuno is known for its eerie atmosphere. The spookiness of this mountain is no longer a secret. There is a market located on the mountain, but it is not your typical market. It is known as the "Devil's Market" or "Pasar Setan".


Mount Arjuno has four climbing routes. 

You can choose to take the Lawang route, the Tretes route, the Batu route, or the Purwosari route. Each route offers its own level of difficulty and uniqueness.

The Lawang route is known for its scenic views and relatively moderate difficulty level, making it a popular choice for beginners. On the other hand, the Tretes route is more challenging, with steep inclines and rugged terrain that will test even experienced climbers.

Meanwhile, the Batu route is famous for its diverse flora and fauna, providing a rich and rewarding hiking experience. Lastly, the Purwosari route offers a mix of both natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it a well-rounded option for those looking to immerse themselves in the local environment. Each route presents a different adventure, catering to a wide range of preferences and skill levels.



ONLINE BOOKING

Open the official online booking page for climbing Mount Arjuno Welirang and Pundak at https://tahurarsoerjo.dishut.jatimprov.go.id/sipenerang.

Click "BOOK".

Read and agree to the climbing requirements and be willing to comply with the regulations at Tahura Raden Soerjo by checking the checklist box at the bottom of the page then click "AGREE"

Select the climbing destination, number of Indonesian climbers, number of foreign climbers, ascent date and descent date. Then click "CHECK QUOTA".

The website will display the nominal fees that need to be paid. If it is appropriate, click "FILL FORM".

Fill in the booking form. Make sure the data entered is correct. If the form has been completely filled in, then click "BOOKING"

Complete a satisfaction survey.

Make payments according to the bill/invoice sent to email and WhatsApp. Virtual Accounts can also be paid through banks other than Bank JATIM with bank transfer fees in accordance with each bank's policy. Payment can be made via cash deposit, ATM, mBanking and ewallet. Make sure to make payment before the time limit expires.

After making payment, make sure to click the "ALREADY PAID" button in the booking status menu.

Payment verification time by admin is a maximum of 1 x 24 hours on working days Monday-Friday 08.00-16.00

Once verified, the system will send a SIMAKSI to the group leader's email. SIMAKSI can also be downloaded in the booking status menu.

UPDATE BOOKING DATA

Adding members can only be done before you make a Virtual Account payment or when SIMAKSI has not been issued

Prospective climbers are permitted to change members a maximum of 1 (one) time, with a time limit of 2 (two) days (D-2) before departure. The group leader cannot be replaced. The maximum number of group members that can be replaced is 50% of the total number of members.

BOOKING CANCELLATION

Booking cancellations can only be made before you make a Virtual Account payment. If you have already made payment, the booking cannot be cancelled.

RESCHEDULE BOOKING

Cannot reschedule booking.

START THE CLIMB

Prepare eSIMAKSI which has been sent via email to the group leader

Show eSIMAKSI to the climbing post officer for validation by scanning the QR Code on the eSIMAKSI sheet.

Continue paying for insurance, bracelet and guide/porter if needed.

Officers check goods/logistics and brief all climbing members.

If climbers have met the requirements, climbers are welcome to start climbing.

COMPLETE THE CLIMBING

Make sure luggage and rubbish are taken down together.

After arriving at the climbing post, show SIMAKSI to scan the QR Code to check group member data.

Check your luggage by the climbing post officer.

Climbers are welcome to go home.



Booking Flow

Bookings can be made 24/7 and the verification process is carried out Monday - Friday 08.00 - 16.00. Bookings are made a maximum of 2 days before the departure date.


1. Arjuno-Welirang and Pundak Climbing Booking Portal

Click the BOOKING button. It is recommended to use the Google Chrome browser to make a booking.


2. Climbing SOP

Understand and obey the applicable SOPs and climbing regulations.


3. Choose a Goal and Schedule

Select the destination Mount Arjuno-Welirang or Mount Pundak and determine the departure and descent date.


4. Fill out the form

Complete all the columns provided and ensure that your email address and telephone number are correct. Billing information and booking status will be sent via Email or Whatsapp.


5. Payment

Invoices will be sent via email and WhatsApp. Billing details can also be seen in the Booking Status menu. The deadline for making payments is 6 hours after submitting the form. After this time, the booking code will be forfeited.


6. Click Pay

After making payment, make sure climbers click the ALREADY PAID button in the booking status menu. Payment verification takes a maximum of 1 x 24 hours Monday-Friday 08.00-16.00


7. Print SIMAKSI

SIMAKSI (Permit to Enter a Conservation Area) can be seen in your email inbox or via the booking status menu on the website. Print the SIMAKSI and show it to the officer at the climbing post.


8. Verify SIMAKSI at Post

The officer will validate SIMAKSI by scanning the QRcode on the SIMAKSI sheet.

Entry ticket rates for Indonesian citizen climbers

Motorcycle taxi pickup: Rp. 25,000,- / person / one way

Locker: Rp. 5,000,- / room

Hot water bathroom: Rp. 10,000,- / room


Especially for climbing Mount Arjuno Welirang, each group consists of a minimum of 3 climbers.
