Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/KaBaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno stated that the number of foreign tourists from Australia and India is potentially increasing in 2024.
This statement was made by Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno during "The Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno" event at Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Monday (26/2/2024).
It is anticipated that more tourists from Australia and India will choose Indonesia as their travel destination in the coming years, showcasing the country's appeal and potential for growth in the tourism sector.
During The Weekly Press Briefing at Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta on Monday (26/2/2024), Sandiaga Uno emphasized the importance of attracting more tourists from Australia and India. He highlighted the need to enhance the quality of tourist visits to Indonesia, with Australia and India being the top two countries contributing to foreign tourist arrivals in the country from February 19-22, 2024.
Sandiaga Uno stressed that Indonesia still has the opportunity to improve the experience for foreign tourists. He mentioned the necessity of pursuing this goal with extraordinary strategies to ensure that tourists can fill the available seat capacity. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of increasing direct flight facilities and implementing more tourist-friendly visa policies to further boost tourism in the country.
The government's focus on enhancing the tourism sector is evident through Sandiaga Uno's statements during the press briefing. By acknowledging the potential for growth in the tourism industry and emphasizing the need for strategic improvements, Indonesia aims to position itself as a more attractive destination for international visitors. Menparekraf Sandiaga has explained that one of the efforts to increase the number of foreign tourists is by increasing the seat capacity from the origin. Recently, in Australia, Menparekraf Sandiaga met with Flight Centre Australia to encourage the opening of new destination packages to 5 DSP (Bali Add-On Destination).
Afterwards, Menprekraf conducted exploratory work on sustainable tourism and destination market education "Beyond Bali" as well as socializing the Bali Tax Levy policy.
Following the visit to Australia, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno promptly flew to New Delhi, India to participate in the Raisina Dialogue event as a speaker on the topic of "Emerging Technologies: A Panacea for the SDGs." Subsequently, he also attended the Bloomberg Roundtable Discussion focusing on tourism investment and the creative economy, particularly the E-Sport industry.
During his time in India, Minister Sandiaga engaged in insightful discussions with various stakeholders on the potential of technology in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. His participation in the Raisina Dialogue provided a platform to exchange ideas and strategies for leveraging emerging technologies to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.
Minister Sandiaga's active involvement in international forums such as the Raisina Dialogue and Bloomberg Roundtable Discussion demonstrates Indonesia's commitment to fostering partnerships and collaborations on a global scale. By engaging in dialogues on key issues such as tourism investment and creative economy, Indonesia aims to showcase its potential and contribute to the advancement of sustainable development goals.
Afterwards, we attended the South Asia's Travel & Tourism Exchange 2024 to inaugurate the Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion, which promotes the concept of sustainable tourism. We collaborated with DusDukDuk and Rumah Atsiri Indonesia, with a potential transaction value of Rp114 billion and a potential foreign tourist arrival of 42,546 pax," he said.
During the event, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno was accompanied by all the officials from the first and second echelons within the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
